What a day here looks like

The help is in the room, every day

At most schools, a child who falls behind gets sent somewhere else in the afternoon. Here the support is simply part of how the school runs — built into the ordinary day, for every child who needs it.

Every child, every day

A small-group school, Grade R–7

Your child comes to us every day and works in a group small enough that nobody disappears in it. They choose whether they learn in books or on a laptop — we support them either way.

  • Grade R through Grade 7, in person
  • Groups small enough to notice a quiet struggle
  • Books or laptops — their choice, no extra cost
  • Outings, sport and creative arts on the calendar
For those who need more

Focused academic support

Some children need more than a small class can give — usually in Maths or languages, usually around Grade 4 to 7. For them we add targeted support on top, with progress tracked and reported back to you.

  • Maths and language support where the gap actually is
  • Weekly progress tracking, honest feedback to you
  • Test and exam preparation through the term
  • One-on-one attention when a child needs it
Free · No obligation

Not sure how far behind they are? Let us show you — free.

Before anything else, we sit with your child for twenty minutes and find out exactly where they are in Maths and language — and which specific gaps are holding them back. You leave knowing what your child actually needs, and we can tell you honestly whether we are the right school to give it to them.

Book the free assessment
  1. We assess Maths and language ability.
  2. We identify the specific gaps.
  3. We explain their level in plain language.
  4. You get clear recommendations, in writing.
  5. We show you what it would take to close them.
Sound familiar?

If your child is getting lost in a class of thirty,
you already know the signs

Bright kids switch off when nobody has time to notice them. Children who need a little extra fall behind. The pace is set for the middle — but your child isn't the middle. They're your child.

"They need more help than one teacher can give"

In a packed classroom, quiet struggles slip by unnoticed until report time — when it's already a gap to close.

"The pace is too fast — or too slow"

Whether your child needs more time or more challenge, a one-size class rarely fits. Boredom and frustration both hurt.

"School has knocked their confidence"

Children who feel behind start to believe they're 'bad at school'. The right home turns that belief right around.

The Shine difference

Built around your child, not the crowd

Everything we do comes back to one simple idea: when a child feels seen and safe, they shine. Here's how we make that happen every single day.

Small, friendly groups

Groups stay small on purpose, so every child gets real individual attention every day — not only when they fall behind.

Learn with books

Prefer pen and paper? Children work through a structured curriculum the classic, hands-on, screen-free way, guided in a small group.

Learn on a laptop

Prefer tech? Children work through interactive digital lessons on a laptop — right here at school, with us helping and overseeing tests.

Their own happy pace

We meet each child where they are. Strengths get stretched, tricky bits get the extra time and patience they need.

Genuine extra help

For children who learn differently, we build real one-on-one support gently into the day — never a spotlight.

So much more than schoolwork

Outings, sport, creative arts and fun days fill our calendar, so school here is something children look forward to.

Why small groups change everything

Your child stops being a number

In a small group there's nowhere to get lost — and that's the whole point. A teacher who truly knows your child can spot the moment confusion creeps in, and step in before it becomes a gap.

  • Attention that's actually individual — not divided thirty ways.
  • Friendships that form naturally in a calm, close-knit group.
  • Progress you can see, with regular, honest feedback.
  • Less worry, more wonder — children relax and get curious again.

Every child comes to school and learns in a small, supported group. The only difference is how they like to work. Both happen here, with us, in person.

Books · the classic way

Hands-on learning with books

For children who love the feel of a book and pen. A complete, structured curriculum worked through the traditional, screen-free way — taught and guided by us in a small group, at a pace that suits them.

Within a term our son went from dreading school to asking to go. The smaller group made him feel safe enough to try again.

Questions parents ask us most

Are you an online school?
No — Shine Academy is a school your child comes to in person, every day. We're not a remote or online school. Children learn in small, supported groups here with us; they simply choose how they like to work — in books or on a laptop — and we support them either way.
What's the difference between working in books and working on a laptop?
It's just the medium. With books, your child works through a structured curriculum the classic, hands-on way with pen and paper. With laptops, they work through interactive digital lessons on a laptop. Both happen at school, in a small group, with our team guiding them, helping with the work and overseeing tests.
Which grades do you take?
We welcome children from Grade R all the way through to Grade 7, grouped thoughtfully by age and stage so every child is comfortable and happily challenged.
My child struggles in a normal class. Can you help?
Yes — this is exactly who we're here for. Smaller groups mean we can give genuine one-on-one support and adapt to how your child learns, without ever singling them out.
How do I find out about places and fees?
The quickest way is a quick WhatsApp message or a call on 061 404 0877. We'll tell you about availability, answer your questions, and arrange a visit so you can see everything for yourself.

Why families stay

Six reasons parents choose us over a bigger school

We are not trying to be the biggest school in Centurion. We are trying to be the one where your child is actually known.

Your child is known by name

Not a number in a register. Every adult here can tell you how your child is doing without checking a file first — because the groups are small enough that they simply know.

We tell you the truth early

You hear about a problem when we spot it, not at report time when it has become a gap. Honest, regular feedback is the whole point of a small school.

Ten years, same place

Since 2015 in Centurion. We are not a franchise that opened last year — the families who started with us are still with us.

Support without the stigma

Nobody gets pulled out of class and marched off to the "extra help" room. Support happens quietly inside the ordinary day, so a child who needs more never has to feel singled out to get it.

Struggling learners are not a special case here

They are most of why we exist. Support is built quietly into the ordinary day, so no child gets pulled out and made to feel like the problem.

School they look forward to

Outings, sport, creative arts and fun days are on the calendar, not an afterthought. A child who wants to be here learns more than one who is enduring it.
